Unfortunately, we've also had some not-so-great news in our family. My Uncle Norm (who is technically my "second uncle" - he's my grandpa's brother - on my mom's side) went into the hospital last week because he was going to have a pacemaker put in his heart. Apparently he has an irregular heartbeat and has been passing out. But it also turns out he's been having seizures, so they gave him an MRI before putting the pacemaker in. Unfortunately they discovered a brain tumor, which, needless to say, sucks. It makes me feel worse when I think about all he's been through recently, which is a lot. His wife, my Aunt Madelin, passed away from cancer in the fall of 2008, and before that, he had gone through treatment for testicular cancer (the doctors are thinking this tumor is cancerous). He has one daughter, my cousin, Micki. I cannot imagine what she's going through. I was talking to Mom about it - we went through something similar with my Grandma, who had brain surgery for a tumor about 10+ years ago. Mom told me how stressful it was on her, but at least she had Grandpa there. Micki has her dad, and that's it. She recently went through this whole awful ordeal losing her mom, and now she has to go through it again with her dad. Ugh.
Uncle Norm was going to have surgery today to remove the tumor, but it was canceled last night because they "don't like the way his sodium levels are looking." Mom says they should take it as a sign and find a second opinion. I agree. More information definitely can't hurt. That's all we know for now.
